Making sensible use of dog beds
With this tip from YACHT reader Johann Kleinrath, you can make optimum use of the hard-to-reach bunk next to the companionway as storage space

As we don't need the dog bunk at the side of the companionway as a place to sleep (unless a guest is sailing with us for a few days), we use it as a quickly accessible storage space for oilskins, spare clothes, wellington boots and other items. Everything is stored in several plastic laundry baskets. However, as the dog bunk on our small cruiser is quite narrow, accessing the rearmost crate turned out to be an uncomfortable struggle. Since we fitted the last hamper with a small lifeline attached to a fender eyelet next to the companionway, nobody has to twist their back anymore.
