Burning yacht on the Flensburg Fjord
A yacht caught fire yesterday on the Flensburg Fjord opposite Langballigau. The skipper was able to save himself and his dog on land with the dinghy

Yesterday, Thursday at around 4 p.m., passers-by spotted the ship on the Flensburg Fjord, which was already shrouded in thick black clouds of smoke, and called the Sea rescuers alarmed. It was located opposite Langballigau on the Danish side. When the sea rescuers arrived, the Danish fire brigade was already on site with a boat to fight the fire.

The skipper of the eleven-metre cruising yacht with its home port of Maasholm, who was sailing alone at the time of the accident, had previously been able to rescue himself and his dog by dinghy on land. From there, the 79-year-old had to watch his sailing yacht burn out completely. The sea rescuers brought him and his dog back to Langballigau, where he was examined by an emergency doctor as a precaution and then released to go home.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. The burnt-out sailing yacht was initially moored by the Danish fire service on a pier off the Danish coast. What happens to the wreck will have to be discussed with the owner and his family. Insurance be clarified.
