A Passat driver with a boat in tow was obviously in too much of a hurry yesterday. First the car and trailer skidded, then the yacht tipped off the trailer

According to the press office of the Rotenburg police station, traffic on the A1 motorway came to a standstill yesterday at around 1 p.m. due to a boat that had broken down on land.

A 35-year-old driver was travelling in the direction of Bremen with his trailer. Between the Elsdorf and Bockel junctions, the trailer swung up and skidded across all lanes with the towing VW Passat.

When the trailer finally came to a halt almost in the centre, the boat slid sideways off the trailer onto the road. It lay there like a beached whale, surrounded by the slow-moving traffic that had built up behind it, before it could finally be recovered.

Fortunately, no people were injured. It has not yet been possible to determine the extent to which the yacht was affected. It is possible that the mast lashed to the deck also suffered damage. The owner, who was obviously in too much of a hurry, will probably have to wait a little longer for the start of the season.

Unintentionally slipped. The trailer does not appear to have been built for boat transport.
