Yesterday morning, a sailing yacht lying on a jetty sank both in Oldenburg's city harbour and in a harbour in Wilhelmshaven. The reasons for this are still unclear

Sailing yacht sinks in Wilhelmshaven harbour

The emergency services received the call at around 9.30 a.m. on 14 January. The sailing yacht sank at its berth near the Wiesbadenbrücke bridge for reasons as yet unexplained. Neither the Wilhelmshaven fire brigade nor the water police were able to detect any leakage of environmentally harmful operating materials. Following the lifting of the sunken yacht, the water police will investigate the cause of the accident.

A yacht also ran aground in Oldenburg

At around 9 a.m., the Brake water police and the Oldenburg professional fire brigade received the news that a sailing yacht had sunk in the city harbour in Oldenburg. It is 10.6 metres long and 3.6 metres wide. Because of the leaking diesel, the fire brigade laid out oil absorbent lines throughout the city harbour. It is now up to the owners' association to have the yacht salvaged.
