The Hallberg-Rassy 69 will be the brand's new flagship. Pure luxury in an extended format. The first hull has now been completed

The sober data alone is pretty impressive: 21 metres long, almost six metres wide and weighing no less than 46 tonnes. The Hallberg-Rassy will be a boat of absolute superlatives, and not just for the traditional shipyard in Ellös on the "boat builder's island" of Orust. The yacht builders are thus sending the Hallberg-Rassy 64 retired as the previous flagship. The first hull has now been completed and is expected to arrive at the shipyard in Ellös in December for further expansion.

The large ship now also has a large, well-protected centre cockpit with two helm stations. The Swedes have already achieved this with the over three metre shorter Hallberg-Rassy 57 realised in this way. All functions for setting and trimming the sails will be operated electrically at the touch of a button directly on the steering columns. This means that even a small crew will be able to easily control the new flagship. The shipyard has even had this concept of "push-button sailing" protected as a trade mark. At the same time, there is space for a deckhand or skipper if required. The cabin superstructure ends in front of the mast. This means that the foredeck remains completely unobstructed and the hatches are flush-mounted.

Large, wide and plenty of space

As is well known, the fixed windscreen is part of the Hallberg-Rassy concept. Alternatively, the cockpit can be partially covered with a hardtop. Like all of Germán Frers' more recent designs for the yacht builders in Ellös, the new, large ship is also quite wide at the rear with a strongly indented waterline. This means that two rudder blades are required, which protrude from the hull at a relatively large angle. At the back of the lazarette, a 3.40 metre long inflatable dinghy with motor can be stored transversely, still behind the rudder shafts. As is usual for all large yachts, Hallberg-Rassy has installed a high-quality, fully cardanic, highly reliable steering system.

The interior is finished in Khaya mahogany as standard. Of course, there are also alternatives such as European oak. The shipyard has already published two possible interior layouts. They envisage two owner's cabins aft and in the foredeck as well as either two or three additional cabins for guests or the skipper, with a corresponding number of toilet rooms. The entire interior is on one level from fore to aft, providing plenty of room to move around. The engine is a six-cylinder Volvo Penta D6-300 with 300 hp, a high and flat torque curve and 790 Newton metres of torque at 2,100 rpm.

Hallberg-Rassy 69 to sail in winter 2023

Shipyard boss Magnus Rassy also revealed an initial price exclusively for YACHT online in the spring. The new Hallberg-Rassy 69 is expected to cost 4.9 million euros (net, plus VAT), depending on the current exchange rate to the Swedish krona. But great things take time: Initial tests are planned for the winter half-year 2023/2024 at the earliest.

Hallberg-Rassy has its roots in Ellös, about 100 kilometres north of Gothenburg. The Swede Harry Hallberg built wooden boats in Kungsviken from 1943. In the 1960s, the German boat builder Christoph Rassy settled in the western Swedish archipelago and initially competed with Hallberg. When Hallberg retired in 1972, Christoph Rassy, who died in 2021, took over his shipyard. An international success story follows under the dual name.
