An exciting addition to the market for compact touring boats is now coming from Poland. The new flagship from the Sobusiak Yacht shipyard is designed to combine sporty sailing characteristics with a great deal of cosiness. The concept is designed to be extremely versatile

At the very last minute, shipyard boss Mariusz Sobusiak brought his new boat to the boot trade fair in Düsseldorf as a surprise premiere, so to speak. The Focus 30 was on show there in Hall 15. The ship is now back at the shipyard for completion and is now being prepared for the first test runs, which will take place on Lake Constance.

The Focus 30 was designed in-house by Jerzy Pieśniewski and Jacek Daszkiewicz. The design duo has already drawn up the plans for the attractive Focus 750 Performance cruiser, which sailed strongly in the YACHT test (issue 22/2018). Now the Focus designers are following up with a 30-footer. The most striking features of their latest design are the maximally wide stern and the pronounced chine on the hull, which runs from the very back to the bow. The negative bow stern is also visually striking, giving the design an additional attractive and sporty touch.

Harbour and roadworthy dimensions

With a width of just 2.99 metres, the Focus 30 will be just about trailerable. With these dimensions, the boat will also fit into the harbour boxes, which are often limited to a width of three metres, especially on Lake Constance. Despite the relatively slim lines, the concept provides for two steering wheels in the cockpit. Spacious storage compartments are provided in the stern and as a large forecastle box under the cockpit bulwark. And: The Focus 30 will be equipped with a folding bathing platform, also as standard ex shipyard.

The Sobusiak shipyard offers a wide range of options for the hull appendages. The boat can be fitted with either a lifting keel or a fixed keel. Depending on the choice, the rudder blade is attached and can therefore be raised, or it is built as a fixed profile on the rudder shaft under the stern, also in a folding version. Buyers also have the choice of equipping the boat with a self-tacking jib or with an overlapping genoa and centreboard rails on deck. The bowsprit is firmly laminated to the hull and ensures efficient use of a gennaker or code zero. What's more, the Poles also offer an optional mast-laying device for the aluminium mast.

Space for six below deck

The room layout below deck includes a separate forward cabin with a double berth and a very spacious aft cabin with an equally large sleeping area for two people. Two additional guests can also spend the night on the sofa berths in the saloon. A separate toilet room and a galley with cooker, sink and refrigerator complete the layout concept for unrestricted touring suitability for up to six people.

The basic Focus 30 costs 117,000 euros including 19% VAT and including a single set of sails (main and jib). However, the basic price does not yet include an engine, for which additional surcharges are payable. Options include a 14 hp built-in diesel from Yanmar with Saildrive, an outboard motor with at least 10 hp or an electric motor from Torqeedo with pod drive.
