Plenty of volume, various options and more comfort: the Bavaria shipyard in southern Germany has put together an attractive package. First pictures from the YACHT test

With the C42 ( Test YACHT 16/2023 ) three years ago, Bavaria presented an impressive new edition of the upmarket C-Line. Bavaria's new model was awarded the title of European Yacht of the Year 2021 in the cruising yacht category for its harmonious design, particularly good sailing characteristics and very cosy and comfortable interior. After the line extension with the C38, the journey continues. For the new Bavaria C46, the concept has been further developed and reinterpreted in all areas. The characteristic features of the hull design with the typical Bavaria V-bow and the pronounced hull upturn have been retained. Like all C-Line models, the new C46 was created in co-operation between the Bavaria development team and designers at Maurizio Cossutti Yacht Design in Italy.

All lines now run aft

With six optional winch positions in the cockpit, the deck layout of the C46 can be adapted to different requirements, whether for cruising with the family or for sporty use with a crew. Unlike the smaller C38 and C42 models, however, all sheets, halyards and trim lines on the new and larger boat are now led back inside the cockpit coaming directly in front of the steering columns, where they are operated via two winches positioned close together, which are also within easy reach of the helmsman. This makes the Bavaria C46 particularly suitable for sailors who are often travelling with a small crew or even single-handed.

The layout in the cockpit features two U-shaped seating groups, with the option of two separate tables that can be lowered. This makes it easy to install two very spacious sun loungers in the cockpit with additional cushions. And: the passage through the cockpit remains free.

The twin-boom aluminium mast is available in a conventional version or optionally as a furling mast. The self-tacking jib is standard, but it is also possible to equip the C46 with an overlapping genoa and centreboard points on the cabin superstructure, for example. The 90 centimetre long bowsprit for a gennaker or code zero is now permanently attached to the hull as a fixed component. If required, the anchor can also be attached to the bowsprit.

Bavaria offers a lot of variance for expansion

Below deck, the new Bavaria offers the customer a choice of different layouts with three, four or five cabins. There is also a version for yacht charters with four double cabins, each with its own directly accessible wet room. The standard three-cabin version is also available with an additional, separate room on the companionway, which can be used as a storage and tool room or as a locker for wet oilskins, for example.
