A clear commitment. The hull of the new C46 is designed to maximise volume. The large hull windows are striking

Bavaria Yachts announces a completely newly developed model for the ambitious C-Line. The proven and award-winning touring concept is now entering the expected expansion phase with the C46

With the C42 (test YACHT 16/2020), the then new management at Bavaria was able to present a convincing new edition of the upscale C-Line. Bavaria's new model was awarded the title of European Yacht of the Year 2021 in the cruising yacht category for its harmonious design, particularly good sailing characteristics and very cosy and comfortable interior. Following the line extension with the C38, the plans to expand the range are now moving upwards. For the Bavaria C46 that has now been announced, the concept will be further developed in all areas and reinterpreted at the same time. The characteristic features of the hull design with the typical Bavaria V-bow and the pronounced hull upturn have been retained. Like all models in the C-Line, the new C46 was created in co-operation between the Bavaria development team and designers at Maurizio Cossutti Yacht Design in Italy.

All lines now run to the rear

With six optional winch positions in the cockpit, the deck layout of the C46 can be customised to suit different requirements, whether for cruising with the family or for sporty use with a crew. Unlike the smaller C38 and C42 models, however, all sheets, halyards and trim lines on the new and larger boat are now led back below deck and inside the cockpit coaming directly in front of the steering columns, where they are operated via two winches positioned close to each other, which are also easily accessible by the helmsman. This makes the concept particularly suitable for sailors who are often travelling with a small crew or even single-handed.

The layout in the cockpit features two U-shaped seating areas and two separate tables that can be lowered at the touch of a button. This makes it easy to install two very spacious sun loungers in the cockpit with additional cushions. And: the passage through the cockpit remains free and unobstructed. The large XXL bathing hatch provides access to a very spacious lazarette. Bavaria has given this aft storage space the provisional working title "Toy Garage".

The twin-boom aluminium mast is available in a conventional version or optionally as a furling mast. The self-tacking jib is standard, but it is also possible to equip the C46 with an overlapping genoa and hoisting points on the cabin superstructure for use in the Mediterranean, for example. Two additional primary winches are then mounted on the cockpit coaming for the sheets. The 90-centimetre-long bowsprit for gennakers or code zero is now firmly attached to the hull as a fixed component. The anchor is also attached to the trunk if required.

Lots of variance for the interior

Below deck, the customer can choose between different layouts with three, four or five cabins. There is also a version for yacht charters with four double cabins, each with its own directly accessible wet room. The standard three-cabin version is also available with an additional, separate room on the companionway, which can be used as a storage and tool room or as a locker for wet oilskins, for example.

Bavaria is still holding back on providing detailed information about the new ship. The layouts with the expansion options below deck, the standard specifications or the price lists are also not yet available. The yacht builders in Giebelstadt intend to present the project in more detail at the boot trade fair in Düsseldorf.
