Nautor Swan launched its new flagship, the Swan 128. The 38.98 metre German Frers design represents the pinnacle of the Swan Maxi Line and combines performance, comfort and state-of-the-art technology. In a few weeks' time, "Be Cool" will be transferred to its home port of Porto Cervo.

The shipyard based in Pietarsaari, Finland, reached a milestone: on the afternoon of 16 May, the new flagship touched the water for the first time. With a length of 38.98 metres, the 136-tonner is the largest yacht in the Swan Maxi Line, which challenged the entire shipyard and design team due to its technical complexity and sheer size. In just a few weeks, the 8.65 metre wide sloop is ready to sail and set off on extended cruises with her owner. Regattas are also on the programme this summer. "Be Cool", as the owner christened his new yacht, has her home port in Porto Cervo.

Milestone for Nautor Swan

"We see the new Swan 128 as the ultimate expression of our evolution," explained Giovanni Pomati, CEO of Nautor Swan, during the presentation of the boat. The yacht combines the purity of Swan's signature design lines with voluminous and comfortable interiors and an extensive use of advanced technologies. "We are really proud and see this yacht as a benchmark in the world of maxi sailing," emphasised Pomati.

With this latest launch, the Finnish shipyard is reaffirming its strong presence in the maxi yacht segment. The new 38.98 metre model crowns the Swan Maxi range, which now includes the Swan 80, 88, 108 and 128.

Design and construction of the Swan 128

German Frers designed the Swan 128, while the deck and superstructure were designed by Micheletti+Partners. The latter further developed the shapes already introduced on the smaller sister, the Swan 108. Misa Poggi was responsible for the interior design, supported by the shipyard's own design and product development team. Here, too, the 108 was the model.

For the design of the Swan 128, an even greater focus was placed on performance, aesthetics and interior design. Particular attention was paid to the owner's area, which takes up a large part of the foredeck. Free of structural restrictions, this area is fully customisable.

Technical innovations of the Swan 128

The Swan 128 perfectly embodies the Swan concept of a sporty cruiser - a yacht designed for long voyages, but equally at home in international maxi regattas, without compromising on its core characteristics. The twin rudder system ensures optimum control even at high speeds and good rudder feedback.

The moderate heel angle of around 20° under optimum conditions further increases comfort on board under sail. This allows easy utilisation of all areas of the yacht. The sail plan with an upwind sail area of 845 square metres ensures impressive distances and high VMG even in lighter winds, but remains tame in demanding conditions.

Deck and interior fittings

The Swan 128 has a raised saloon and a flat deckhouse, which gives the yacht a sporty and dynamic feel. Designer Lucio Micheletti focussed on a perfect balance of volume, shapes and details. The result is an elegant blend of traditional styling and modern shapes, enhanced by an interesting interplay of materials that creates a vibrant chiaroscuro effect and conveys a sense of speed.

The interior with its flexible layout was created in collaboration with German Frers , the shipyard interior department and Misa Poggi. The raised saloon, accessible via an extra-wide companionway, benefits from three levels of natural light and panoramic views. The two main areas - lounge and dining - are well separated in the standard configuration, although the layout also allows for numerous customisation options.
