At first glance, the M72 does not look very typical of Mylius. Until now, the Italians have largely ordered their fast cracks from the Italian Alberto Simeone, who created contemporary, elegant lines. The new 22 metres are almost radically different. The bow alone is a statement: voluminous and with a negative stem that merges into a maximally bevelled foredeck that stands for a name: Shaun Carkeek. His design office of the same name from Southampton created a similar shape for Nikals Zennström's Fast40 "Rán VII" back in 2018. A 52-foot version followed for the Swede, on whose baisis Carkeek designed the 54-foot sister "Daguet 5" designed.
Mylius has already completed the complex moulded Carkeek fuselage of the first M72. It was laminated in the company's own halls using prepreg carbon fibres throughout. Ballast tanks, each holding 1,000 litres of water, double rudders located far aft and wells for the lifting keel (3.9 - 5.7 m), the retractable anchor and the drive unit had to be taken into account. The rig also promises high performance potential. A main with square top and J2, Code 0 or A3 are set on the 29.90 metre long mast made of high modulus carbon. There are 366 square metres of cloth in the airstream.
Mylius is still looking for an owner for the first M72. Technical Director Francesco Bianchi says: "We wanted to take the concept of the super-fast cruiser to a new level. As the work is already very advanced, the M72 only needs a final personal touch from the customer. An additional advantage when you consider that more than two years pass between the project and the construction of such a yacht."
Mylius commissioned Carkeek to create volumes worthy of a real blue water boat. They were filled by Parisotto + Formenton Architetti, who created a sporty, modern design with smooth surfaces. The proposed version has a three-cabin layout with a main cabin in the bow and two guest cabins aft; crew areas including a galley are also conceivable here. Cooking takes place in the saloon, with a Pullman berth to starboard and a study opposite flanking the keel well.
The shipyard in Piacenza has already built five boats of the new Mylius M60 FD since 2018, with another unit currently under construction. The M66 RS "Schorch" sails under the German flag. Italian entrepreneur Luciano Gandini took over the shipyard in 2011 and sails the Mylius 80 "Twin Soul B" himself. His daughter Valentina is now CEO and Giovanni Manni is Managing Director of the shipyard. The contact person for Germany is Alois Neukirchen from West Yachting.
