The Finnish shipyard Baltic Yachts, based in Pietarsaari, around 200 kilometres south of the Arctic Circle, has announced the launch of the Baltic 121 Custom. The 37.08 metre long sloop was ordered by an experienced owner who wanted a blue water cruiser with speed potential and plenty of comfort. The ship was designed by Malcolm McKeon, who was responsible for the exterior design as well as the hull lines and structural calculations. The interior design was carried out by the British design team from Adam Lay Studio. Construction began in June 2024 and delivery is imminent.
"The design is characterised by a full carbon construction, telescopic keel, fixed bimini and a generously sized sail plan that can still be easily handled by a small crew and guarantees excellent all-round sailing performance," says Malcolm McKeon. "The modern exterior design maximises the use of glass in the superstructure, creating a bright and open interior with 360° views from the fully glazed deckhouse." McKeon focussed on safety, redundancy and reliability when designing the Baltic 121 Custom, two factors that are crucial for long-distance cruising.
Adam Lay Studio took a modern, nature-inspired approach to the interior design. Designer Adam Lay: "The interior will be an evolution of our studio's modern, nature-inspired, textural approach, with clean lines and muted wood tones. Contrasting, textured fabrics will be part of the carefully balanced aesthetic, with practicality and durability in mind for relaxed blue water cruising."
Baltic Yachts specialises in the construction of carbon custom builds and is currently working on two further orders in addition to the Baltic 121 Custom, the first Baltic 80 Café Racer and the 32.90 metre long Baltic 107 Catamaran.
