Hooded Ark 100: Lucio Micheletti places the roof over the body like a lid and ...

The Hooded Ark 100 project aims to show that long journeys can also be elegant. Measuring 30.48 metres, the Farr Riss shines with a clever and extravagant superstructure roof designed by Lucio Micheletti.

Hooded Ark 100 is sure to attract attention. This is how it should be with concept studies with which shipyards or designers want to attract customers. The eye-catcher of the 30.48 metre long blue water express is its "lid": The superstructure roof starts behind the mast almost at deck level, rising like a bird's head to cover large parts of the cockpit aft.

Deckhouse designed diagonally

The diagonal deckhouse provides both protection and headroom for the outdoor areas. What's more, the windows can be opened sideways into the impressive coaming to enjoy the warm climate. Or a protected and fully air-conditioned environment can be created, providing additional comfort in the cockpit on stormy or cold days.

Lucio Micheletti came up with the idea. Born in Milan, he studied architecture at the Milan Polytechnic and opened his own studio, Micheletti+ Partners, at the age of just 26. In the field of architecture, he focussed on residential buildings and hotels. In the field of design, he headed towards the automotive industry, where he designed interiors for the legendary car design studio Zagato.

Micheletti's steepest design

In the yachting world, he made his mark in 2019 with the 43-metre Baltic "Canova" made a name for himself. A short time later, Nautor Swan hired him as an external designer, as a kind of design entity behind Germán Frers. Their opus magnum is the maxi flagship launched in 2025 Swan 128. With the Hooded Ark 100, Lucio Micheletti clearly sets himself apart from previous deckhouse concepts and picks up on shapes from nature. The designer himself succinctly describes his work as "geometry in motion, elegance at sea".

Long travel construction from Farr

The US design office Farr Yacht Design, which calculated the hull and appendages, vouches for solidity, seaworthiness and long distances. Above the water surface, the tapered bow and flowing deck lines, and below the T-shaped telescopic keel and twin rudders are designed to minimise resistance and maximise comfort.

The carbon sandwich construction and a targeted displacement of 88 tonnes speak in favour of fast long-distance sailing. The Slup with a sail area of 536 square metres is to go over stays. The Farr team has subtly increased the width to create a spacious interior without compromising performance. The deck layout intuitively guides movement from the helm to the hatch.

The project team has not revealed any details about the realisation. Everyone involved in Hooded Ark seems to have had fun. The project name can be translated into German as "Ark with a hood".
