Film yachts: The secret protagonists in The White Lotus, Tenet and Succession

Tenet | "Planet Nine"

Christopher Nolan's 2020 blockbuster brought an unnamed "protagonist" (John David Washington) to the big screen. The CIA agent only appears to die in an attack on an opera in Ukraine and is supposed to save the world from Russian oligarch Andrei Sator (Kenneth Branagh) and a third world war. Sator and his wife take him on a foiling F50-class sailing cat, filmed off Southampton with the help of SailGP star Tom Slingsby. On the Amalfi Coast, he meets the antagonist on "Planet Nine". The 73 Admiral metres are a rare foray into the explorer genre by designer Tim Heywood and look sinister in "Tenet". This is helped by a replica missile defence battery on the helideck and, of course, the arrival from the air. The MD Explorer 902 had to go into the hangar so that a Russian Mil Mi-8 could pretend to touch down. It was too heavy.

The White Lotus | "SilverCat"

The third season of the successful HBO series also features the 36-metre Silver Yachts catamaran. However, the main role among the locations is played by White Lotus, the name of a fictitious international hotel chain. The individual seasons are set in Taormina in Sicily, on Maui or on the Thai island of Koh Samui. It's always about the guests and staff of the resort. The action moves to "SpaceCat" in the fourth episode. It is the yacht of Greg Hunt, the boyfriend of model Chloe (Charlotte Le Bon). The futuristic design was launched in Western Australia in 2022 according to specifications by Espen Øino (p. 48) as the first model in the SpaceCat series. Silver Yachts wanted to create a floating villa, and "White Lotus" put it to the test: there was plenty of room for half the cast on the twelve-metre-wide decks. Succession | "Solandge"

The HBO series is dedicated to the topic of succession within a US family business. The four seasons of "Succession" primarily deal with dysfunctionality and power. The fictional media mogul Logan Roy cannot let go, considers his four children incapable and sees his life's work in danger in times of changing media use. The drama is loosely based on the inheritance dispute surrounding Rupert Murdoch, the founder of Fox News. As far as the portrayal of wealth is concerned, the Logan clan knows all about stealth wealth. Whether in Manhattan or on the Riviera, they are not conspicuous in public through their clothing or appearance, although helicopters and private jets are mandatory in the background. The fact that it has to be an 85-metre Lürssen for the grand finale of the second season, "Solandge", fits the picture. Because the disgruntled patriarch Logan Roy asks his descendants on board - for a crisis council and to emphasise differences in position, but also in unconditional assertiveness.
