The sister ship, construction number one "Vinson of Antarctica", was completed three years ago. With a large deckhouse, six double cabins and numerous details that are as robust as they are sophisticated, the yachts are designed for research and expedition cruises in high latitudes.
The ability to be self-sufficient for long periods of time is a common thread running through the design and equipment - and is ultimately reflected in the weight: the ships displace over 60 tonnes when fully loaded.
The new Pelagic 77 uses two carbon masts. All sail systems can still be operated by hand.
The biggest difference between the two yachts will be the engines, as well as the sailing area. While the new Pelagic will later be deployed in the Arctic, the "Vinson of Antarctica" - as the name suggests - will be travelling in the southern hemisphere.
The construction phase will be accompanied by the British professional skipper Skip Novak, head of "Pelagic Expeditions". Tony Castro is the designer of the ocean-going vessel, which is being built by KM Yachtbuilders. The shipyard is known for its high-quality aluminium yachts. The next construction phase can now begin.
