Cannes has much more to offer - especially for lovers of classic yachts - than the Croisette or the famous Festival Theatre. Régates Royales is the name of the sailing competitions that will be held for the 35th time this year in late summer in the bay of La Napoule and, as in previous years, will ensure a harbour filled with numerous classic beauties. The townscape changes with the arrival of the yachts. The harbour bars are full and the jetties are buzzing with life. For owners and crews, the regatta is not just a sporting highlight in their sailing diaries. The classic sailing scene is small, people know each other from previous events and are extremely open to new contacts. "We are one big family, united by our love of these beautiful yachts," says Andrew Cully, captain of the William Fife ketch "Eilean", which was launched in 1936.
