At 17:15 on Sunday, the 143 metre long "Sailing Yacht A" left its building site in Kiel. Destination: supposedly the southern Spanish harbour of Cartagena.

The "Sailing Yacht A", one of the most spectacular yachts in the world, has been built in Kiel over the past five years. Opinions are divided about its exterior design, which was developed by Dölker+Voges and Philippe Starck - but one thing is certain: wherever the 143-metre-long giant docks in the future, it is sure to attract attention. The up to 100 metre high masts from Magma Structures, the metallic paintwork and certainly the illustrious company that owner Andrey Melnichenko will invite on board will ensure this.

At 17:15 on Sunday, the Nobiskrug, under the direction of her German captain, left Kiel and set course for southern Spain. In Cartagena, the final work is said to be carried out before the owner will use the yacht. The only way to get there from Kiel is via Drodgen Sound at Copenhagen Airport. There, the Öresund connection runs as a road tunnel and "A" can leave the Baltic Sea without having to cross under any bridges. However, the depth of the sound is only eight metres, which is close to the draught of the "A". For this reason, only a minimum amount of diesel is to be stored in the tanks to keep the yacht giant as light as possible.
