The mast is positioned far aft, in the rear third of the ship's length, just on top of the cabin superstructure. A main boom and mainsail are not provided, but a self-tacking jib and a genoa more than twice the size are. Both sails can be furled, which makes handling extremely easy. Depending on the course, wind direction and wind strength, the boat is sailed with a genoa, jib or both. A code zero or a gennaker would be conceivable to complete the wardrobe, but would again make handling more complex.
Another special feature of the unusual Dolce Vela concept is the double motorisation. The stern of the Vismara is equipped with two outboard engines, each with 60 hp, which can be completely retracted into the hull together with the shaft and propeller when sailing. The crew then closes the hull penetrations with end plates. The two drives can accelerate the Vismara up to twelve knots.
The cockpit with a large central steering wheel and the saloon under the all-round glazed retrospective cabin superstructure are on one continuous level, similar to catamarans. The boat comes from the shipyard Vismara Marine Concepts in Viareggio and is made entirely of wood. The hull is made of moulded, lightweight cedar wood.
On request, Vismara also offers the Dolce Vela concept for boats of 40, 46 or 50 feet in length. A different engine is also available, as is a customised interior. However, the shipyard has not yet communicated the prices for the semi-custom projects. The Italian shipyard specialises in larger custom builds and offers a very extensive range of mostly sporty, modern sailing yachts and some motorboats. Alessandro Vismara is also the representative of Baltic Yachts.
