The French are focussing on model maintenance and have announced a comprehensive renewal for the Sun Odyssey touring line. There are also new names

Only the Sun Odyssey 349 (test in YACHT 6/2014) retains its name. The Lombard design is the latest boat to join the current range of cruising yachts in the Sun Odyssey programme. In addition, Jeanneau's smallest touring boat already features many of the modifications that have now been announced for her larger sisters.

All other yachts are given a new type name. The Sun Odyssey 379 (test in YACHT 21/2011) will become the Sun Odyssey 389, the 409 (YACHT 23/2010) will be renamed 419, the 439 (YACHT 6/2011) will become the 449, the 469 (test 2/2013) will become the 479 and the 509 (YACHT 2/2012) will become the 519:

All yachts in the Sun Odyssey programme now have the option of a permanently attached GRP bow nose. The extension has many advantages: on the one hand, it serves as an elegant and unobtrusive solution for the anchor bracket and ensures the necessary distance between the ground anchor and the boat when deploying and hoisting the anchor. On the other hand, the bowsprit acts as an attachment point for additional headsails such as a gennaker or code zero. Finally, the permanently attached nose can also be used as a step when boarding and disembarking via the bow.

In the models from the medium-sized segments (Sun Odyssey 389, 419 and 449), the bathing platforms are also significantly larger. On the new Sun Odyssey 389, however, the stern hatch is only offered as an option for an additional charge, as on its little sister 349. On the larger ships, the bathing platform is included as standard.

The companionways have also been updated. The steps to the interior are now less steep throughout and the treads are wider and angled to the side. This should make it easier and safer to pass through the companionway when the boat is heeling. And the companionway bulkhead is now fitted with fixed doors everywhere.

Finally, Jeanneau has also made some modifications to the cosiness below deck. Concealed LED lights provide indirect illumination for a more pleasant light below deck. And for the entire Sun Odyssey programme, a much wider selection of different upholstery fabrics is offered. There is also a greater choice of wood types for the floorboards.
