Who doesn't know the elegant, fast and neatly hand-built boats from the Wefers shipyard in Nettetal? Wooden on top, plastic underneath. They are still pretty popular because they are somehow already classics when they leave the factory. The RW 26, for example, is the bestseller. Or the RW 32 tourer and the RW 16 dinghy.
Rolf Wefers is now retiring, but his legacy will live on. Production will be taken over by RWN Yacht- und Holzmanufaktur GmbH & Co KG, managed by Christian Schepers, who learnt his craft from Wefers. "I just didn't have the heart to let the classic designs die," says Schepers. Wefers will assist his former apprentice as master craftsman, a role reversal that should guarantee that things will continue.
Continuity in philosophy and construction quality is the order of the day, as is the location, which will also be retained, as the test basin, crane and slipway are already there. The second focus of the new company in the old location will be the preservation of classic yachts. A 5.5 metre yacht and soon a 7 metre yacht are currently on the job list. In addition, there is the usual service and repair work on plastic boats and the production of customised tarpaulins.
