YACHT travelled with the one-off Pure 49, which is causing a stir on the Kiel Fjord

The design by Martin Menzner, a proven specialist for high-performance aluminium boats, skilfully mixes sailing details and features that are usually spread across a whole host of different boats. The Pure 49 is made from durable aluminium, but is equipped with a carbon mast and fathead mainsail. The upwind headsails are a self-tacking cutter jib and a genoa. Code Zero and gennaker can be set directly from the sail load on the fixed bowsprit: Water ballast is added to the stability of the lifting keel, replacing ten men on the edge. The cockpit is deep but open. The double rudder blades are controlled by a tiller. The pilothouse accommodates the free watch.

Semi-one-offs and series yachts from Pure in Kiel

Matthias Schernikau built the boat himself from a hull. The former owner of a cruising chair factory has taken over the site of the former Lindenau shipyard in Kiel, where he will be manufacturing aluminium yachts based on designs by Berckemeyer Yacht-Design/Martin Menzner under the name Pure Yachts together with other experts and boat builders. The Pure 49 is the first boat in the programme, so to speak. A BM 50 is already under construction. Both are semi-one-offs. Yachts of the Pure 42 type are to be built as series boats.
