Real handiwork: Thomas Bergner completes an O dinghy
There are more than just the big manufacturers Bavaria, Hanseyachts and Dehler in Germany. YACHT shows who else builds boats in Germany in a loose sequence

They only produce small series and one-offs, they don't work to time, they are still genuine boat builders with manual labour instead of assembly line production. From Flensburg to Radolfzell, from Erftstadt to Rügen, these manufacturers produce beauties, exotics and evergreens.

The small boatyards thus contribute to the almost infinite variety offered by the boat market and enrich it, even if they do not achieve large quantities.
A new series is dedicated to finding out who the companies in the shadow of the large manufacturers are, what characterises them and what they build. In the first instalment: Thomas Bergner Bootsbau in Trappenkamp, Schleswig-Holstein. The speciality: combining carbon and wood. The range is extensive. Among other things, Bergner builds dinghy cruisers, H-dinghies, DN ice sleds and now also a small-series 30-metre dinghy cruiser.
