According to the 1974 edition of "Seemannschaft", "the motorsailer is a compromise between a sailing yacht and a motor yacht". It should offer three quarters of the characteristics of a pure sailing yacht and three quarters of the speed and comfort of a motorboat.

No shipyard took this to heart more than the Danish company LM Glasfibre AS, which dominated the market segment for two decades. Until yacht production was discontinued and wind power has been used to generate energy ever since.

In our special, we not only review the success story of the shipyard, but also look into the question of the core of a motorised glider, what makes it special and why has the concept seemingly outlived its usefulness?
