A fresh breeze blows in Heeg on the test day. The test run with the Falcon Racing is a fast outing. The boat has been on the market for over ten years, yet this is the first boat to be built. The Falcon is now being built by Neptun Yachten in Rheda-Wiedenbrück.
However, the history of the design goes back even further into the past. In the Netherlands, the Valk made of wood with bent spars and a gaff rig has a firm place in the sailing scene. The plastic Polyvalk version is even more popular. This simpler, cheaper version made of GRP has become the standard boat for sailing schools and boat hire companies. Countless Dutch people have learnt to sail on the Polyvalk.
This is exactly where the Falcon comes in: Klaas Goos wanted to create a more modern interpretation of this successful concept. A boat that takes on the advantages of the Polyvalk, but with a more contemporary design and a sportier layout. The name Falcon - English for falcon - is a deliberate reference to the Dutch model Valk.
The Falcon Racing is designed as an all-rounder and is intended to combine the simplicity of a dinghy with the safety of a keelboat. The simple single spreader rig from Seldén without backstay carries plenty of sail area. However, this is offset by a fixed keel weighing just under 160 kilograms. In addition, the bowsprit already provides plenty of mould stability. In addition, the vertical space between the hull and cockpit shell provides so much buoyancy that the Falcon is unsinkable. Water can also easily drain out of the open stern. A lot of safety, which qualifies the Falcon Racing as a training boat for sailors who sometimes make mistakes. Pascal Ernst from Neptun Yachten took over the moulds and production of the Falcon from the Netherlands in 2025. Only the Falcon Racing is now on offer.
