The c55, which is marketed by Biehlmarin in Flensburg, combines progress with simplicity. The boat uses a classic 505 rig and a symmetrical spinnaker.
Thanks to its open cockpit, it is just as suitable as a school boat - four people can easily fit in the boat - as it is as a family boat.
In the c55's country of origin, Sweden, a strong class association has already been formed that organises regattas. And rightly so. Because the c55 appeals to sailors who want to sail in a sporty manner. Young match race crews have also discovered the c55: thanks to its open cockpit and the space in front of the mast, the keel dinghy is ideal for fast and safe manoeuvres.
The boat seems to be sailing directly into a niche in the market. Because there are no keel dinghies that are modern and conservative at the same time. A class association is now to be founded in this country too. The rather low introductory price of around 10,000 euros, supported by the large Swedish shipyard Crescent, makes entry into the class attractive.
YACHT sailed the new boat for a trial run. You can read our impressions of the short trip in the latest issue.
