A new yacht has been launched by model boat manufacturer Stockmaritime. The M155 is a 155-centimetre-long megamaxi model yacht with a gennaker and canting keel, made entirely of carbon. In strong winds, it is designed to lift up to two thirds out of the water.

This is made possible by a tilting keel set at five degrees, which develops more and more lift with increasing tilt, as well as the asymmetrically shaped centreboards, which are coupled to the keel. Other features include the extremely light and strong carbon mast with groove and adjustable spreaders as well as the gennaker with sheeting system for furling and jibing.

According to the manufacturer, the yacht will also be used as a technology carrier for the Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel. As part of the "Smart Maritime Structure Control Lab" research project of the Chair of Control Engineering, the M155 is to be fitted with a wing rig. The profile is to be asymmetrically deformable to starboard and port.

M155, construction and technology

The basic version of the M155 is available from 4,650 euros, but can also cost over 14,000 euros depending on the equipment and design.
