The new site is located in the neighbouring province of Upper Austria in Munderfing, just ten minutes by car from the shipyard's original headquarters, which originated from a joinery that was founded in 1838. The new location has several advantages, says shipyard boss Schöchl: "We are building and planning a completely new shipyard where we can make better use of the space and optimise the work processes, which affects everything from delivery, warehousing and production to delivery and service. The new facility is better connected to the public transport network and offers more favourable conditions for employees. In addition, Upper Austria is more industry-friendly than Salzburg, which is economically driven more by tourism.
The new site is 14,000 square metres in size, half of which will initially be built on and used for production, storage and office space. Production will move to a new hall of around 1,200 square metres. A mobile hall of the same size, which is still in Mattsee, will serve as a buffer zone and for service and winter storage. The new workshop will have a larger test basin with a sprinkler system and is equipped with a 10-tonne crane. The floor is designed for loads of 15 tonnes, so that Sunbeam Yachts can also manufacture larger boats again. The new building is due to start in the autumn, with an estimated construction period of eight to ten months. Sunbeam Yachts currently produces around 15 units of the latest daysailer, the Sunbeam 29.1 in two versions, 10 boats of the Sunbeam 32.1 and 20 to 25 Sunbeam 22.1.
