"A breath of fresh air is now blowing on the former site of the Lindenau shipyard in Kiel-Friedrichsort: the boatbuilding company "Pure Yachts GmbH", founded in 2024, is investing 5.4 million euros in a new facility for the development and construction of high-quality aluminium sailing yachts. Among other things, this will create 28 new jobs." According to the press release from the state of Schleswig-Holstein on the economic development of Pure Yachts.
"A young, innovative company meets a traditional location - it's a perfect match," said State Secretary for Economic Affairs Julia Carstens, who recently handed over the funding notification for 1.1 million euros to Pure Yachts founder and Managing Director Matthias Schernikau. "Pure Yachts is an ambitious shipyard that has found its niche." The concept of the experienced boat builders also includes a focus on sustainability: for example, they mainly use recycled aluminium for the yachts, only use local woods and the majority of the interior will be "recyclable by type".
Schernikau and his team want to build around ten sailing yachts per year on 3,600 square metres of production space in the medium term. The entire site covers around 12,500 square metres. The inventory includes a 60-tonne lifting crane that can be used to cover the entire area. The company is planning a small marina for around 15 yachts on the waterfront.
The Deck saloon yacht Pure 42 (please click for the test), a design by Berckemeyer acht Design, has already won the title of European Yacht of the Year. A larger model is being planned.
The funding of almost 1.1 million euros comes from the state's Economy 2021-2027 programme with funds from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Political support for shipyards is nothing unusual. YYachts in Greifswald is also supported by the ERDF. And the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has supported Hanseyachts for several years by providing guarantees for bank loans.
