20 boats with around 50 people came to Immenstadt in mid-August to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the founding of the "Club Aphrodite 101 Bodensee e. V.". The programme included a meal together, a quiz about the Aphrodite and, of course, lots of technical discussions. The success story of the Aphrodite 101 on Lake Constance began in October 1977 at the Interboot in Friedrichshafen. Waldemar Ott, one of the later founding members of the class association "Club Aphrodite 101 Bodensee e. V.", bought an Aphrodite 101 at the trade fair. The first 101 on Lake Constance, appropriately christened Aphrodite, was launched in 1978. That year, Waldemar Ott took part in the prestigious "Rund Um" on Lake Constance and immediately achieved a sensational third place. The sailing community became aware of this type of boat as the ideal "Lake Constance racer". The 101 fleet on the lake quickly grew. The 101 was always entered in regattas as an IOR-measured boat.
A few years later, Fritz Ellinger took part in many regattas as a crew with his "Let's fetz" and his daughters. In view of the ever-growing fleet of racing 101s, he had the idea of establishing the 101 as a standardised class on Lake Constance. So in 1984, some 101 sailors put their heads together and decided to found the class community in Uhldingen and laid down the rules. Three of the founding members, Susanne Ott, Antonious Ott and Egon Peter, are still active in the class association today.
The 101 still enjoys great popularity on Lake Constance. Today, it is built by OTT Yacht in Meersburg. The 101 fleet on Lake Constance has now grown to around 150 boats. Every year, the Lake Constance and long-distance champions are determined, and an annual joint cruise is also organised. The "101 Open", the international class championship on Lake Constance, is organised every two years.
