The Maxus 31 from the Northman shipyard in Poland is less than nine metres long and less than three metres wide. And yet it is already a real cruising boat with everything you need for a trip with the whole family. The new addition to the Maxus range made its world debut at the Boot trade fair in Düsseldorf, where it became one of the big attractions.

The Maxus 31 adds another exciting competitor to the compact cruising yacht class. It is an extremely courageous step by the yacht builders in Poland, in an attractive market segment somewhere between small cruisers and cruising yachts.

The concept fulfils the demands of cruising sailing with a surprisingly large cockpit, with long thwarts on which you can lie stretched out. The boat can be optionally equipped with a steering column or tiller steering. The standard equipment includes roof winches for all functions to the side of the companionway for the halyards and trim lines. Optionally available are primary and secondary sheet winches on the cockpit coaming for genoa and mainsheet. As an exclusive feature in this boat size, the shipyard builds the boat with a folding bathing platform with an integrated seat for the helmsman.

The construction comes from the Northman Shipyard Design Team in collaboration with designer Tomasz Micewicz. Cast iron L-keels with a draft of 1.85 metres (standard) or 1.50 metres (short keel) are available for the boat. At Northman, the decks and hulls are built by hand from GRP. The hull is a full laminate, the deck a sandwich construction with a foam core.

Interior with a wow effect

The real surprise is what the smart Polin offers below deck. Two or three double cabins are available, which is an absolute novelty for a boat of this size. If the owner opts for the two-cabin version, there is also a large aft locker that can be accessed both directly from the cockpit and from the inside through the wet room. Comfortable living and sleeping is provided by the forward cabin with a beautifully large double berth. The berth is 2.00 metres long and a full 1.60 metres wide at shoulder height. Two people can lie comfortably next to each other here.

In the standard two-cabin model, the already very generously planned wet room aft is extended by a separate shower compartment - another unique selling point in the class. In addition, there is a beautifully large galley with a comparatively large work surface and plenty of storage space. The interior components not only look very robust, but are also well and harmoniously installed.

The Maxus 31 will cost 126,020 euros, including 19% VAT. This price also includes a set of simple Dacron sails (main and self-tacking jib) and the smallest built-in diesel from Yanmar with an output of 14 hp. Alternatively, the shipyard also installs larger and more powerful engines with 21 or 29 hp. An electric pod drive would also be feasible.
