The young team led by designer Alexander Vrolijk caused a furore in 2015 with the Bente 24. In contrast, the launch of the new project, the Bente 39, which celebrated its trade fair premiere at the Hamburg Boat Show, was rather quiet. Which is somewhat surprising, as it is an even bolder design than its little sister.

In mid-November, YACHT was the first magazine to have the opportunity to sail the Bente 39 on the Kiel Fjord.

With its chines and full frame, the Bente looks beefy and aggressive from the front

With its flat deck and optional carbon fibre sails, you almost think you're watching a competitor in the Volvo Ocean Race

The fully glazed dodger is the characteristic feature of the Bente and is unique on yachts

The strong kinks are particularly noticeable when looking aft. Nevertheless, the shape of the underwater hull is more like a cruiser than a racer

Under gennaker, the Bente reached a speed of nine knots in around 15 knots of wind - but did not yet start planing
