After the flagship of the Kiel Youth Sailing Association, the Marstal schooner "Zuversicht", was scrapped last year, several parts of the ship are now being given a second life. The rigging and parts of the deck equipment will be used to rebuild the sister ship "Bien" in Korsør, Denmark.

"We do everything ourselves, because when you do something, you always learn something new," says Christian Dyrløv, shipyard manager at the Korsør Vocational Training Centre. Working together also strengthens the team's cohesion. This refers to the current mammoth project, the total refurbishment of the Marstal schooner "Bien". At the end of 2023, terrible news from Kiel became good news for this project. The sister ship "Zuversicht" was to be scrapped there.

The shipyard's project team purchased 8 sails, all the masts and spars, the davids, the windlass, the anchor gear and all kinds of brass and bronze fittings. "We are very happy about that. It saves us a year's work. And recycling is good and modern," says Dyrløv.

The "Bien" was built in 1898 in Marstal in oak on oak. The 21-metre-long schooner has belonged to FGU Korsør since 2020. The youth ship is operated under the motto "Young people build ships, but ships shape young people" (freely translated from Danish as "Drengen bygger båden, mens båden bygger drengen.").
