We all know that ships are like women: You can fall in love with them. And even Kaiser Wilhelm was not immune to this. The enthusiastic sailor came, saw and bought the American yacht "Iduna", which took part in the Kieler Woche in 1897.

Wilhelm gave this sleek schooner to the Empress, who had a lot of fun with it, which is why she used "Iduna" extensively. For sailing around, for daysailing, as a holiday frigate, but also to sail the odd regatta. Or to let it sail.

Starting on Sunday 17 June, the Centre for Classic Yachting in Holtenau will be showing an exhibition about life on board the "Iduna", including historical documents, graphics and a model from the Kiel Maritime Museum.

Also on show are works by two well-known Kiel artists, Kerstin Mempel and Corinna Kraus-Naujok. They will be presenting sea-themed paintings from their gallery "Blauschimmer".

The exhibition can be seen from 17 June to the end of September at the Zentrum Klassischer Yachtsport, Kanalstr. 62, 24159 Holtenau. Opening hours during Kieler Woche 10:00 to 17:00, afterwards Wed-Fri 14:00 to 17:00 and by appointment.
