It all kicked off on Friday, organised by the Friends of Classic Yachts and the Kiel Yacht Club organised an event featuring a feeder regatta from the Schlei to Kiel, in which 28 yachts were classified. This was followed on Saturday by the traditional long-distance race, the actual A Gathering of Classics, which started in the Inner Fjord of Kiel and followed the fairway to its point where it meets the Outer Fjord, before returning to the finish line.
A new feature introduced last year was the subsequent Silver Wings – Pantaenius 12-Metre Trophy, consisting of three up-and-down races each in the inner fjord on Sunday and Monday. The races served as valuable preparation for the 12mR World in Marstrand, Sweden – one of the world’s most prestigious regattas for this class.
