The German Classics are more than just a regatta, they are a festival of the Friends of Classic Yachtswith plenty of room for discussions, new contacts, boat tours, competition on the courses, an evening music programme and good food. The event starts on Thursday evening with a reception with Prosecco and music. Several short races will be organised on Friday. The long distance race on the Stollergrund on Saturday is a tried and tested event.
As every year, the classic yachts and boats are moored in the Laboe municipal harbour. The large yachts are moored at the fishing jetty, while the smaller ones are moored in the pits or in small parcels on the quayside at the festival site, where they create a beautiful picture. There is a select cultural and culinary offering in the marquee, at the barbecue, two drinks trolleys and at the coffee and crepes stand.
Classic yachts, which were traditionally built from wood, need a lot of love and at least as much care. Classics from the fleet are also regularly extensively restored. Outstanding projects are honoured with the "Restoration Prize", which is awarded every year as part of the German Classics.
