The sun had more power than the wind, but it was enough to give the crews of the wooden beauties an exciting regatta. The race started directly in front of the old Olympic harbour Rendezvous of the classics of the Freundeskreis klassische Yachten and visitors to the Kiellinie were treated to an impressive sight as the fleet of 52 traditionally built small and large boats - from dinghy cruisers to twelve-oared boats - sailed on various courses across Kiel's inner and outer fjords.
The coveted Berthold Beitz Cup for the fastest cruiser yacht was won this time by the "Senta", a 4th generation Spreizgaffelketsch owned by the Schmidt family from Bremen. The following Sunday belonged to the 12mR yachts. A total of six of these witnesses to great yachting history offered high-quality sailing in front of the marvelling KiWo visitors.
