Over the years, the event has developed into one of the most important in the region. Not least because the event has been continuously developed. The regatta attracted international attention in 1991 when two prominent participants caused a stir: Elizabeth Meyer brought along her newly restored "Endeavour", while Baron Edmond Rothschild took to the starting line with his 6-metre yacht "Spirit of St Kitts".
Another important milestone in the history of the regatta was the acquisition of the first sponsor. CSR took on this role and introduced the Concours d'Elégance - a competition in which the beauty and condition of the participating yachts are judged. This competition quickly developed into a crowd-puller and contributed significantly to the appeal of the entire event.
