On 20 June, the first Saturday of Kiel Week, the Kiel Fjord will once again become a stage for classic boats. Enthusiasts of traditional boats and yachts can watch them in action from the water or take a closer look at them afterwards in the harbour.

The “Rendezvous der Klassiker” is organised by the Friends of Classic Yachts and the Kiel Yacht Club. The club is also the host and will accommodate the fleet of participants in the historic Olympic Harbour basin in front of the clubhouse in Kiel-Düsternbrook, where the prize-giving ceremony will take place on Saturday evening, followed by celebrations.

A strong fleet

There are already numerous prominent names on the list of participants. The large 12-metre yachts “Flica II”, “Jenetta”, “Vim”, “Trivia” and “Heti” are expected to attend. As for the large ocean-going yachts, the owners of the “Germania VI”, the “Gudrun” and the “Peter von Seestermühe” have announced their participation.

Powerful images

However, the area is particularly appealing to owners of small classic boats, and so everything from the Piraten to the Hansajolle, Drachen, Folkeboats and Schärenkreuzer is expected to turn up. As in previous years, this means we can look forward to some lovely photos, just like those in the gallery featuring highlights from previous years.

A strong start

The race starts at 11.30 am in front of the start house in Düsternbrook. However, as the start of the Aalregatta also takes place here beforehand, the time may be brought forward or pushed back by half an hour. The course takes the fleet all the way out of the fjord to buoys 1 and 2 in Strander Bay and back.
