The new Dragonfly 36 being tested off Denmark
The new issue of YACHT takes an in-depth look at trimarans of all kinds. The focus is on the test of the new Dragonfly 36, an adventurous trip in Finland with a plywood trimaran and a portrait of the renowned yacht designer Guillaume Verdier. We also shed light on spectacular failures in sailing, reveal how you can save on taxes when buying a boat and look at many other exciting topics.

The Danish manufacturer of the Dragonfly is known for its innovative folding trimaran concepts that combine speed and living comfort. We tested the latest model. The focus was on the question of how comfortable you can actually be when travelling with the fast three-hull boat. The results promise interesting insights for anyone thinking of expanding their cruising area with a trimaran.

Adventure in Finland: Travelling on a trailer with a plywood trimaran

From Denmark to the far north. An adventurous sailor has ventured out on a trailer trip to the far reaches of northern Scandinavia in a 56-year-old Piver plywood trimaran. The destination was Inarijärvi in Finland, the northernmost inland area in the world. The travelogue takes us to a breathtaking landscape that is good for many exciting experiences. At the same time, it shows that older trimarans can also be suitable for ambitious cruises.

The trimaran focus is completed by a portrait of the French yacht designer Guillaume Verdier. His designs have won the world's biggest sailing trophies and are considered milestones in modern yacht building. The Ultim-Tri "Gitana 17" heralded a new era in yacht design. The YACHT editorial team visited the creative mind and spoke to him about his working methods and philosophy. Verdier's expertise ranges from ocean racing machines to innovative cruising yachts - his thoughts should be of interest to any sailing enthusiast.

Tragic heroes: When great plans fail

In addition to the success stories, we also look at the darker side of sailing. A detailed article sheds light on spectacular failures in record attempts, circumnavigations or trips to extreme latitudes. The focus is on how the protagonists deal with failure and what lessons can be learnt from it. The analysis promises valuable insights for anyone planning their own ambitious sailing projects.

From children's sailing camps to inclusion projects

The issue is rounded off with a colourful mix of other topics. A report from a sailing camp shows how children can be taught how to handle the tiller and sheet in a fun way. Another article is dedicated to inclusion projects in sailing, in which people with and without disabilities go sailing together.

Technical topics are not neglected either: a comparison of 19 e-scooters for shore leave and tips on attaching solar panels to the main boom should be of practical use to many owners.

Lovers of classic yachts will get their money's worth at the presentation of the 77-year-old Spitzgatt sea cruiser "Najaden". The perfectly restored vintage boat stands in impressive contrast to the modern high-tech yachts of our time. And anyone thinking of buying a boat may benefit from the tax tips that legal expert Benyamin Tanis has prepared for our readers.
