The concept for the new trimaran is now even more versatile, especially when it comes to the interior design. Up to six cabins are now possible, spread over three hulls and in the saloon, plus three toilet rooms, each with separate shower areas. And if desired, two more cabins for the skipper can be integrated into the aft side hulls. In terms of living space, the new Neel 52 far surpasses its predecessor, the Neel 51 (YACHT 6/2018 test). According to the shipyard, the habitable area below deck is no less than 70 square metres.
The design plans for the new 52 come from Marc Lombard's studio. As an alternative to the standard equipment with aluminium mast and overlapping genoa, a slightly higher performance rig made of carbon fibre with significantly more sailing power is also available. Without exception, all sheets, halyards and trim lines are led back via the coachroof to directly in front of the helm. However, there is no traveller for the high and slim mainsail. Its important function is performed by two separate mainsheet hoists. A long bowsprit is firmly laminated to the centre hull for the gennaker and code zero.
As is customary with Neel Trimarans, all GRP components for the new 52 are built using the complex and weight-saving vacuum infusion process. The shipyard uses foam sheets made from recycled PET as the core material for the sandwich constructions.
The base price for the Neel 52 is quoted at 1,283,890 euros, gross including 19% VAT. The detailed test report will follow in an upcoming issue of YACHT.
