New, strong competition for the market leaders Lagoon and Fountaine Pajot: with the new Open 40, the French catamaran specialists from Nautitech are launching an attractive and innovative offensive in the field of relatively small and therefore also owner-friendly cruising multihulls.

The design from the pen of Marc Lombard and Frank Darnet is characterised by a distinctly angular look with chines in the hulls and kinked bows, underpinning the general trend in catamaran construction. The aggressive look with many corners, sharp angles and elongated lines is very much in keeping with the spirit of the times.

A special and innovative feature of the Nautitech Open 40 is the helm stations mounted far aft on both sides and in a recessed position on the hulls. Here, the helmsman sits and works protected, but at a very low level - to be understood spatially. The double helm stations are a speciality of the busy cat builders in Rochefort on the French Atlantic coast. They offer the layout with two wheels at the side as an option on many models in their range, but it remains standard on the Open 40. There is no provision for a laterally raised helm position.

The rig concept is also new. A self-tacking device for the jib is mounted on the cat from the shipyard. As a result, the mast on the 40 is positioned slightly further aft than on the older Nautitech models. The boat can also be optionally equipped with a furling code zero or a gennaker. A fixed bowsprit is fitted between the bows for this purpose.

As is typical for cruising catamarans of this size, the customer also determines the layout of the interior of the Nautitech Open 40 with either three or four cabins. In the standard version with a total of four cabins and one large bathroom per hull, the new Nautitech costs 354,380 euros. The owner's version with three cabins costs 371,220 euros.
