The focus is on performance and sportiness. The pronounced hull rise extends all the way to the bows, creating a sharply tapered, slender waterline.

Nautitech Catamarans in France has unveiled the new 41 Type S, a sporty and high-performance cruiser. The first vessel has been completed and was made available to the YACHT editorial team for an extensive test sail off La Rochelle. The first pictures are also already available in the extensive photo gallery above.

The new Nautitech 41 Type S follows a clear concept: less is more. The design is deliberately minimalist and consistently geared towards low weight and high efficiency. The comparatively tall mast, combined with a high-performance sail plan, ensures sporty sailing characteristics. The significantly overlapping genoa with halyard points on the cabin roof comes as standard, complemented by a fully battened mainsail with generous head shape (squarehead). With the standard sail plan, the sail area ratio is over 5.2 – an unusually high figure for cruising catamarans. In the YACHT test, the catamaran delivered an impressive demonstration of its performance potential in light to moderate winds.

A characteristic feature of the Nautitech design is the two steering wheels, which are mounted far aft and recessed relative to the running deck. The helmsman stands at the very stern, almost level with the aft platforms. Despite the exposed position of the helm stations, the helmsman is well protected and has a clear view of the surroundings, not least because he can move freely from windward to leeward as required.

Layouts with two or three double cabins

The standard layout for the hulls includes three double cabins and two wet rooms. In the port hull, the standard layout retains the full-length owner’s cabin with a double bed aft and a spacious bathroom with a shower area in the fore section. No variants of this layout are planned. In the starboard hull, a double cabin aft and a second cabin in the forepeak are planned. The en-suite bathroom with shower, situated amidships, is accessible from both cabins. Alternatively, owners can have the forward section on the starboard side converted into a utility room for longer sea voyages. This can be used as a walk-in wardrobe, storage space, workshop or office.

The Nautitech 41 Type S in its basic configuration costs 539,070 euros ex-shipyard, including 19 per cent VAT and a set of sails comprising a mainsail and a genoa. The comprehensive test report on the Nautitech 41 Type S will appear in one of the forthcoming issues of YACHT.
