The Outremer 45 launched last year is getting a hot sister: the 4X is designed to deliver more performance, especially in light winds

Outremer catamarans are not known for being slow, on the contrary. They have always been among the fastest multihulls with full living comfort. However, to mark the shipyard's 30th anniversary, the French are now going one better. With the Outremer 4X, they are responding to the high-performance trend fuelled by Gunboat and Dazcat, among others. YACHT online shows the first pictures.

The new cat is largely based on the Outremer 45 presented for the first time last year, but has a longer waterline because the two hulls have been stretched aft by around one metre, which should also ensure better water drainage. To save weight, the bulkheads are made entirely of carbon fibre sandwich. The rig is also made of carbon fibre.

According to shipyard boss Xavier Desmarest, the measures are particularly effective in light wind conditions. For example, the prototype of the Outremer 4X should sail faster than the wind at just 3 Beaufort under Code Zero.

Technical data and prices are not yet known. The boat will be on display at the autumn trade fairs in France.
