J&J Design in Slovenia is responsible for the development. The Aquila 50 Sail is consistently designed as a blue water catamaran for owners and charters. Accordingly, the focus is on maximising space for a high level of comfort on and, above all, below deck. Wide hulls and a generously dimensioned superstructure create the necessary volume for this.
A distinctive feature is the spacious flybridge. It not only serves as an additional lounge area, but also houses the centrally located helm station. From here, the skipper has a good overview of the sails and manoeuvres. All halyards, sheets and trim lines are led to the helm station. This allows the boat to be easily controlled from a single-handed position. Electrically operated winches are available as an option, enabling the ultimate in "push-button sailing".
Side steps lead directly from the flybridge to the spacious front cockpit. Aquila's concept is characterised by the absence of a classic trampoline between the hulls, similar to the yachts of the Bali-Catamarans brand from France. Instead, the entire foredeck is designed as a solid surface up to the bows, which creates additional usable space in the foredeck area and also increases the feeling of safety.
The Aquila 50 Sail is equipped with a pinhead mainsail as standard. A sportier wardrobe with a powerful squarehead mainsail is also possible as an option. The mast is also positioned relatively far back on the cabin superstructure. Accordingly, the genoa is also large and powerful. A self-tacking jib is also not provided as an option.
The shipyard installs two diesel engines as standard, with a choice of 50, 60 or 70 hp. However, electric motors from the manufacturer Torqeedo (2 x 50 kW) or a hybrid system are also available on request. Aquila builds the catamarans entirely using the vacuum infusion process with vinyl ester resin. The shipyard has come up with an unusual and clever solution for transporting the dinghy with an extendable crane system. This allows the dinghy to be simply attached to the stern and set down on the large stern platform.
The layout for owners provides for a full-beam cabin in the port hull with a very spacious bathroom and a separate toilet room. Three double cabins are possible in the starboard hull, each with its own bathroom and separate shower area. All cabins are accessible via separate entrances from the saloon, cockpit and front cockpit. Layouts with four, five or six double cabins can be realised in combination with the various layout variants. Depending on the layout variant, it is also possible to create an additional room in the foredeck as a walk-in storage space, workshop or office. The shipyard can respond flexibly to customer requirements here.
The 50 Sail is the first ship in a new series of sailing catamarans from the Aquila brand. The shipyard is apparently already working on a smaller version under the name Aquila 44 Sail, which is due to be unveiled in autumn 2026. A larger Aquila 65 is also in preparation. The price for the Aquila 50 Sail is quoted by the shipyard at 1,391,000 US dollars. At the current exchange rate, this corresponds to around 1,184,800 euros, net of VAT.
