T&T - News: Timeless Swede
Test of the scanner 391/Successful on the market for 17 years

Although the boat has been around in its current form since the mid-1990s and the basic concept dates back to 1988, it has only been available from a German dealer since last year. Jacobs Jachtsport in Neustadt on the Baltic Sea sells the tried-and-tested Scanner 391.

The yacht was built around 80 times as the Scanmar 38. The designer Nils-Eric Olofsson then took over the moulds and set up his own company, Scanyacht AB. He gave the 11.70 metre long ship a makeover so that it would meet today's requirements.

That is a success. Enthusiasts of Scandinavian yacht building will certainly be quickly won over. Both the sailing performance - the lines of the scanners were once drawn in accordance with the International Offshore Rule (IOR) - and the quality of the fittings need not hide behind a modern design. In terms of pricing, the ship is also very competitive.

You can read all about the strengths and weaknesses of the scanners in the detailed test in the new YACHT (issue 5/05, available now in magazine shops).
