The ship from the Cornish Crabbers shipyard in southern England combines the values of modern and historical design features: The hull is built in GRP, but has a classic shape and is fitted with a gaff cutter rig.
Whilst the original version has relatively little wood on and below deck, a new version has a much more ship-like appearance. Berlin-based Julian Sarfert buys the hull in England and builds the long keeler with a new cabin and deck layout at his shipyard in the Czech Republic.
The strong windward tendency was also remedied by a longer bowsprit with jib. Despite all the woodwork - a teak deck, for example, comes as standard - the higher-quality ship costs just €97,000 compared to the original for €148,000.
Overall, the Pilot Cutter 30 by Julian Sarfert is an exciting boat for people who value individuality, tradition and looks over high living comfort and good manoeuvrability.
