The new HR 40 MKII follows the current design line of the models 43 MKIII (YACHT 13/14 test), 48 MKII, 55 (YACHT 20/13) and the flagship, the 64 (YACHT 15/11). With this latest update, the line of centre-cockpit yachts from Ellös in Sweden is now up to date again. The successful 40 has been modernised and adapted in a total of 19 areas as part of the complete overhaul.

The most visually striking changes are the much larger and now frameless windows on the superstructure. In addition, two additional windows in the hull now provide even more light below deck and a better view from the saloon area. The rig has been made higher and carries slightly more sail area compared to the previous model. Otherwise, the hull and hull appendages remain unchanged. A new feature is the option of retractable bow and stern thrusters with docking function. In this case, the shaft drive is replaced by a saildrive. The exhibition ship in Friedrichshafen is also configured in this way.

Below deck, Hallberg-Rassy has also made significant revisions to its 40. The most important new feature is that the aft cabin can now be fitted out in different ways. In addition to the classic arrangement with a central island bed under the cockpit tub, a double berth can now also be arranged on the port side. In this case, the space on the starboard side can be extended with either a small bench seat or a third, but shorter berth, for example for families with children. An interesting arrangement as an option.

The Swedes have also worked on and improved a lot of details in the interior. For example, the companionway (centre cockpit yacht), which was previously steep due to the design, is now somewhat flatter and easier and safer to walk on. And the shipyard has improved the space utilisation in the foredeck without changing the already very comfortable berth dimensions.
