Note

For sale, a beautifully maintained L30 presented at the idyllic Eforie Nord Marina, Romania. She is currently on the hard and will have antifouling in April 2026 ahead of next seasons cruising and racing and test sails for those interested!

Named Entropy, she has a unique configuration that enhances the L30’s rare blend of roles: daysailer, sports boat, and coastal racer. This L30 is prepared for unlimited adventure: it has a complete autopilot and navigation system plus a new marine Victron battery system complete with inverter, which supports the recently factory refurbished Torqeedo inboard electric motor allowing a full recharge of the Torqeedo batteries at sea. The Victron system can also power ten hours of nonstop steaming with a 48v outboard backup motor, for example, if becalmed. Both Victron and Torqeedo batteries are equipped with solar chargers.

Entropy was purchased from L30 in 2021 after a complete boatyard refurbishment when an upgraded stainless steel keelbox was also installed. She was built in 2019 and has hull number UA-OTB010201919.

L30 introduction

For those new to the L30 class, it is a Porsche of the sailing world - a thoroughbred racer with a full carbon rig but that still allows for a luxury lifestyle and comfortable cruising. It is brilliantly designed to balance comfort and mobility without sacrificing high-performance.

Its speed record is 24.7 knots and it performs exceptionally in light wind showing 2.8 knots boat speed upwind in just 1.9 knots true wind speed when using its Code zero gennaker.

The L30 makes possible a sailing lifestyle completely asymmetric to the typical experience due to the ease with which it is trailed, rigged and launched. You are no longer bound to marina hopping and long haul sailing where you at the mercy of the whims of nature and difficult marina managers. The freedom to lift out and drive or ferry the next leg rather than sail is transformative and the possibility to safely and cost effectively keep your yacht on its trailer on the hard when you are not there feels both secure and liberating. This flexibility transforms sailing adventuring from arduous trips tethered to uncontrollable factors to being empowered to decide what the next leg looks like every time. Frankly, the L30 concept is ingenious.

L30 is an official ISAF International Class with an annual well-supported World Championship supported by an average of 20 teams at every event. The boat is suitable for racing with mixed crews of varying levels and even youth, so the regattas have a family or holiday feel to them. And there is always a Corinthian prize for the best result without a professional onboard. Owners must steer at championships, constraining the “arms race” that many other high-performance classes fall into. A competent helm with one professional (only one professional is allowed) and a practiced crew can become an ISAF World Champion in this class.

The major static fleets are in the USA and Hungary, but Germany is catching up fast. L30s are now manufactured at Code Yachts in Hungary and will soon be produced in the USA too.

At 1820 kg, it can be towed by SUV or certain vans. It is usually launched by single point lifting but it can also be launched from its trailer via a slipway. Once faced with a €600 crane fee in Greece, Entropy used the marina slipway which cost €25. The single point lift system allows for launching with any portable crane. In other words, wherever you tow the L30, you will be able to launch easily and cost-effectively. One of the images is Entropy on a ferry to Crete where she sailed for a few months before island hopping using ferries or sailing as suited; another is with the travel lift at Puerto Banus, their forklift was used to step the mast.

Sail plans

The L30 is rigged with a square-top main and running backstays. Three jibs match upwind conditions, plus the aforementioned large, powerful code zero, which is also useful for reaching. The main can be reefed, and the jib is flown from a roller furler.

Entropy has its original sails plus a full set of new sails: main, two jibs and two gennakers all used only once. Entropy has the slightly rare J2 jib which is an upwind weapon in over 25 knots. It also has an A3 gennaker which is 74m2 compared to the standard 85m2 A2. It is rarely used in racing but it is much easier to handle when cruising with limited hands or an inexperienced crew on board.

Autopilot

Entropy is fitted with a high-spec NKE navigation package including GPS HF (high frequency), Multigraphic, Compass, Gyropilot 2, Topline (includes WIFI), depth/speed, wind speed/direction and AIS Class Transponder and Splitter. The Jefa linear autopilot drive (LD100) features a flat wound electric motor, planetary gearbox and electromagnetic clutch. The autopilot can be operated from your mobile phone using NKE’s app. The system is ready for cruising or advanced racing needs. It has comprehensive man overboard functionality. There is also a PLB1 Ocean Signal coded to Entropy’s call sign and MMSI which can be worn on your person. The system also works with a remote with a range of 300m which can be used to steer the boat, operate the MOB alarm and turn the boat head to wind in the case of man overboard.

The navigation is powered by the Victron 12v system via a DC/DC converter. A backup system is in place where with one switch the navigation can be powered by the spare Lithium 12V battery. This battery is charged with a 12V Victron charger.

Toilet

The toilet was upgraded with a new SeaFlo toilet and electric blackwater tank. The manual toilet is interchangeable with a 12v or 24v SeaFlo electric toilet either of which can run off the victron system. The new design allows maximum flexibility. If the yacht is on a lake that does not allow black water access this can be achieved. If travelling with the yacht by road the black water tank allows for days of use if necessary. If a marina prohibits pumping waste while at the pontoon this is also solved.

Bedding

The L30 comfortably sleeps four but Entropy has some beautiful additions. A removable alloy frame extends the forward cabin into a large sleeping area and a custom made foam mattress converts this area into a luxurious sleeping space. What was previously a small area, as the photos show, is now a viable alternative to any hotel room. In fact, it's probably one of the most comfortable yacht master bedrooms. The two side cabins adjacent to the cockpit are also comfortable adult-sized sleeping areas and fit single foam mattress tops if desired.

Water and shower

The original small water tank was replaced with a 100 lt tank and the pump also upgraded and moved to the toilet area to improve performance. Entropy has a transom shower, which has good power and is perfect after swimming or for showering.

Other equipment

Entropy carries one large and one small anchor. The main anchor is a large danforth with a short heavy chain and a lead-centered anchor rope. In the sandy bay of your choice the helm simply opens the hatch behind the steering wheels and throws the anchor and chain off the stern (there is, of course, an anchor compartment in the bow if preferred). Then walk the rope end to the bow and attach it. The boat is light and easy to manoeuvre making anchoring another atypical experience. The second anchor is useful for rocky mooring or attaching on land if you raise the keel and rudders so that you can step ashore. Entropy has an 8 foot carbon fiber gangplank made from offcuts of a carbon yacht (very cool). The Harbeck trailer is fitted with long custom made strong storage bags for the sails and other equipment.

Test sail

The closest airports to Eforie Nord Marina are Varna and Bucharest (2 hours drive) or Constanta (30 minutes). The owner, Irish 49er Olympian Fraser Brown is on WhatsApp at +380638792598. Call or message to set up a test sail. The main German L30 dealer is available to support logistics of the sale, if desired.
