YACHT launched the award 20 years ago. The award ceremony for Europe's Yachts of the Year 2022 took place for the 19th time at the end of January. Even though the anniversary will not be celebrated until next year, the current selection of the best yachts already provides an opportunity to look back and reflect.
In the new issue, we have documented the results, but above all the background and the experiences of the extensive practical tests on 14 pages. On one double page per category, we categorise the performance of the nominees and the winning boats.
In it, we explain why and how, for example, the Hanse 460 was able to prevail against the equally strong Dufour 470 or what made the Hallberg-Rassy 50 the jury's favourite ahead of the Swan 58, the Lagoon 55 or the X 5.6 - all of which are also hot contenders for the title.
Statistics fans may also be interested to know which countries are at the forefront of boat building and how well German brands are represented in the eternal leaderboards. We also recapitulate the minor and major mishaps that have occurred at sea over the past 20 years - from sheared outboards to broken masts.
A fun fact in advance: during the test voyages, the twelve jury members have logged a good 35,000 nautical miles in total so far - ten times an Atlantic crossing or one and a half times a Vendée Globe.
The major report on Europe's yachts of the year 2022 is now available in the new YACHT 4/2020, from now on in well-stocked newsagents, via app or directly in the Delius Klasing online shop (click here!).
