Long voyage: Trans-Ocean organises virtual blue water evenings in winter
Sailing towards the horizon under the trade winds. The winter months are ideal for acquiring knowledge for the great voyage
It all starts in November. This is when the deep-sea sailing club Trans-Ocean e.V., based in Cuxhaven, starts its third winter season with virtual blue water seminars. The micro-seminars will once again take place as Zoom meetings on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month. The seminar series begins on Wednesday, 9 November 2022.

As in the previous two years, blue water sailors Bert and Marlene Frisch from Cuxhaven will host the evenings, which will always focus on a different topic that is of particular interest to long-distance sailors. Guests include speakers and experts from the blue water scene.

It starts with situations that nobody wants to experience:"Security, piracy and weapons on board" is the topic next Wednesday, the9 November. Bert and Marlene Frisch are then in conversation with Chief Superintendent Jörg Flackus from the Piracy Prevention Centre of the Federal Police Sea in Neustadt.

Questions such as: What to do when encountering refugee boats? Where are the most vulnerable areas today? What does it mean to take a weapon on board? How can you protect your yacht? What options are there for passive protection against burglary and dinghy theft?

The two follow-up dates are also already known:

23 November 2022: Topic Boatoffice

14 December 2022: Topic long-distance sails

Other topics that will be discussed in the coming months include

Other countries- Other customs, provisions and galley, diesel engines, diesel plague, fire protection, lightning protection, medicine at sea, the grab bag, dealing with the authorities, sailing in bad weather, partnership, fears, role allocation, on-board electrics, power supply, drinking water, orcas and buying a boat. The exact dates will be announced later.

The event starts at 7 pm. The Zoom room is open from 6.30 pm. Participation in the micro-seminars is free of charge. Even those who are not members of the association can take part.
