Used appropriately, a radar sees better and more than the skipper's eyes. For example, a radar constantly looks behind the sails and can warn of potential collisions, even if the other vessel does not have an AIS transmitter. The radar warns of gusts of wind and can therefore support the decision to reef. So it's no wonder that professionals often run the radar even when visibility is good.
However, the operation of a radar device must be practised in order to know: what does a radar see, what does it not see and what does it see even though it is not there?
Both the basic settings of the device and the latest features of modern radar devices are discussed. How have they developed in recent years? What makes sense, what is a gimmick? Screen shots and real video recordings taken while sailing in fog are presented and interpreted in a practical way. Radar navigation is an art and deeply satisfying when you master it. Similar to a doctor who can see inside our body by looking at an ultrasound or X-ray image.
NOTE If you are unable to attend the webinar, you can also register as a "absent" participant the recording of the webinar (but limited to four weeks).
We look forward to seeing you!
